Everything in this category belongs to the generator set rather than the engine, and that single fact resolves most of the confusion we see in enquiries. An engine serial number will not identify a controller. What identifies it is the genset serial, the alternator make and model, and the model number printed on the existing controller or AVR itself. Send those three and a photograph of the unit in place, and we can quote accurately; send the engine serial alone and we cannot.

The controllers in regional service span several generations — PowerCommand PCC and PCL, Level 1 panels, Detector 12 and a range of third-party controllers fitted during refurbishment. Sets in this region are frequently retrofitted, which means the controller in the panel is often not the one the set left the factory with. Trust the label on the unit over any documentation.

AVRs are the most commonly replaced item here, and the most commonly replaced unnecessarily. An alternator that will not build voltage is often a field or diode problem rather than an AVR fault, and fitting a new AVR into a fault it cannot fix is a common and avoidable expense. If you are troubleshooting rather than replacing a known-failed unit, tell us the symptoms and what has been measured.

On tier, we quote genuine for controllers and AVRs. Compatible third-party AVRs exist and work in many applications, but the protection functions are the reason the part is there, and we would rather quote you the correct unit than the cheap one.
